What generation do I belong to?
Gen Xers are those former latchkey kids born between 1961-81, give or take a few years depending upon which expert you're quoting. I choose the broadest definition available from generational researchers Neil Howe and William Strauss in an effort to not exclude anyone who may identify him or herself as Generation X.
One of the interesting features of Generation X is that it is nearly 30 million fewer in number than the generation immediatley older (Baby Boomers) and the generation that follows them (Generation Y).
Generation X Discussion
I like to think of this blog as a quiet revolution that helps further awareness of the critical role Generation X plays in our nation and world. I am not expert in generational research. Rather, I seek to advance the Generation X discussion and serve as a conduit, transmitting information about my generation. This includes data, information and ideas that not only I have compiled and created, but many others as well. Thus, this is a thinking and linking blog.
More than Generation X
While Generation X is the prevailing theme on this site, I incorporate other themes into my posts including marriage, family, kids, career, culture, God, religion, politics and sometimes, my hometown, Oklahoma City. To locate posts on specific subjects scroll down to the tag cloud under "labels." The bigger the word, the more posts pertaining to that subject matter.
Guest Blog Posts
I publish Generation X guest blog posts on this site. I am primarily interested in personal-type essays that incorporate spiritual themes or that frame content around culture, politics, religion and family. If you are interested in submitting a guest post, please send it to: jenx67[at]cox[dot]net.

Hi. Interesting blog. When I was in high school they told me that the Baby Boom in 1964. I hated that, b/c I was born in 64 and NEVER felt like a Boomer. My parents were more Boomer than me. Then I read the book Generation X and found my people. Been X'ing ever since. Thanks for giving us the space here. Cheers, John
Thank you for your blog - I have always resented academic types, who specialize in demographic studies, insisting everyone born in 1964 is "part of the baby boom" generation - it makes no sense - I have absolutely nothing, zero, in common, with Americans born in 1946 or 1948, or in the early to mid 1950's. Two of the most culturally significant moments to baby boomers are the assassination of JFK and the arrival of the Beatles in America - both of those events took place before I was born, so I had not even been born yet, forget about being old enough to remember or understand those events - Thanks again - Frank - San Clemente, Ca

@FRANK - Pushing the cutoff to 1964 just makes Boomer academicicans feel younger. Ha! Maybe! Anyway, I'm more than three years removed from the Boomer cutoff. Just sayin'. Thank you for your comment. My brother was born in 1962 and is more Gen X than me!!
Doug Fieger, lead singer of The Knack, passed away over the weekend. I was finishing my freshman year in high school, in southern california, when My Sharona was released (June 79), and it absolutely was the most important and most played song in the summer of 1979 - it really was one of the first great songs of the post 70's "classic rock" era - it was our song - a new style of music that helped to usher in "new wave" and eventually what became known a new alternative style - Continue on your Journey Doug - You will always be remembered by Gen X
@FRANK - I've written a short post about the passing of Fieger. I'm so glad you let me know. I just saw Reality Bites two weeks ago, in which My Sharona is heard. So sad. Only 57!!! What is with Gen X icons dying so young. Geez!!!
So what if you were born in say, 1958 or 1959, and don't feel like you belong to the baby boomer generation or generation x? What's a girl to do? I just wanna have fun, I mean, belong.
