Why Baby Boomers Dislike Generation X

A student named Molly wrote a scathing editorial for the University of Pittsburgh’s, The Llama Ledger about just how much Baby Boomers dislike Generation X. Excerpt:

But with great power and success comes a hunger for more power and success, and with the end of the ’70s in sight, the boomers began to worry that their reign as the world’s movers and shakers was coming to a close. Generation X, babies born in the ’60s and ’70s, were entering the workforce, and the boomers could not allow this new generation to be more accomplished or special than they were.

Generation X had to be stopped at all costs (see: Sylar, “Heroes”).The boomers quickly went to work spreading propaganda at alarming rates, planting seeds of doubt like a farmer carefully tending to his crops. Soon, no one wanted to hire Generation X. After all, Generation X was a bunch of slackers and rebellious hoodlums with bad attitudes.

So, Baby Boomer dislike Generation X and have for a very long time. Like from day one.

Stay-At-Home Dads

Here’s another article/blog post extolling the virtues of Gen X parents. Check it out. Here’s an excerpt:

Generation-X includes more stay-at-home dads, fathers working from home and dads cutting back long hours than previous generations, say analysts. Gen-X moms are distinguishing themselves from baby-boomers by embracing traditional roles. Though they’re more college-educated than any previous generation, more Generation-X moms than boomers are staying home or working part time.

Why do you think Baby Boomers dislike Generation X so much?

Somehow I think that you have something to do with the larger audience that GenX is receiving. Your research, writings and articles on the subject are extremely informative and enlightening. I am so glad that my brother thought there was a reason that I should find you. Of course, he was a HUGE Bruce fan, too! The last concert that he went to in 2007 was Bruce and he said it was fantastic! Whenever I hear a Bruce song now, I think about him and then I think about you.

    Hugs,
    Debbie

is it any suprise that the recession is going to be worse for gen x than any other generation – most things associated with financial well being have always been worse for gen x anyway … poop ! le
