I took Juliette to the Girlie Show yesterday at the Farmer's Market in Oklahoma City. This is an annual art show that features the art of a few dozen female artists from all over the United States. My favorite artist last year and this is Debbie Curtis who hails from Warr Acres, Oklahoma. Her artwork reminds me of my older sisters, Linda and Becky. They had dolls like the ones she paints - the old Kens with blond fuzzy hair, and the old Barbies.
Among the best the Girlie Show had to offer: Debbie Curtis.
Since I didn't think I should spend $300 on a painting for myself right before Christmas, I bought this painting for around $30 from Ali Bergen. It reminds me of our family five.
Ali Bergen's bird family painting. The little pink bird is wearing a cross.
I love exposing myself to the creative consequence of an artist's mind, which is exactly why I go to art exhibits and art shows. I get new ideas and gain new perspectives. One artist used mosaic tiles on an old guitar, and another created compelling robots out of old cans and various pieces of junk. A few were exhibiting vintage jewelry, which they had retooled into all kinds of interesting things. I think it's such a shame that art has gotten a reputation for being high brow. That is so ridiculous.I'm so easy to please when it comes to art, although I don't like what I consider to be "dark" pieces. For example, one artist, who no doubt had her fair share of talent, painted rather creepy doll-like women with two eyeballs in each socket. Stuff like that does not appeal to me.

love the birdies and love that you are not pigeoned holed into one 'art' genre / form/ style or whatever.
Love that the art is now part of your story :) le
