Little Bitty Blue Plate Special: Generation X Called "The Dumbest"

So many things have occupied my mind the last few weeks, the least of which include my brother’s health issues and my grandmother’s passing. I have hardly had time to collect all the great Generation X news bits and blog entries. A brief perusal of this subject via Google, lets me know I’ve missed quite a bit. I will catch up soon. In the meantime, this is what I had time to gather. Pay particular attention to the last two.

I love it when they can’t figure us out. Market Watch reports a story out of Dublin about Generation X presented “unprecedented challenges to marketers. The media they use is fragmented. They embrace a wider range of lifestyles than previous generations. And, weaned on MTV and cable television, they are largely immune to traditional advertising.” Check it out.

A similar article based on market research says that Generation X is glued to the PC, and if digital marketers understand Gen X quirks we can be a real dream for them. This is an interesting article that cites a great stat for anyone selling online – 74 percent of female Gen X Internet users purchase products online and 80 percent go online to conduct research. Check it out.

Neil Howe just fell off the pedestal I had him on. =( I can hardly believe he said this, but he did right there in the December 7, Washington Post. Thanks, Neil. We really appreciate you being the leading authority on generational research and then going off to make a real name for yourself by calling early Gen Xers, the dumbest generation.

Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, has an “op ed” piece in the New York Times this weekend, The Real Generation X. It’s definitely worth a look-see.

Hi girl. The link to the Neil Howe article isn't working. And I read the Thomas Friedman piece this morning and thought of you immediately. Thanks for providing so much Gen X news.

It's not surprising about Howe's comments. His co-auth'd book (the 13th gen) was and remains laughable.

How old is Neil Howe? If he's a Boomer, he won't feel that we Gen X's are dumb when we're paying for his social security benefits and taking care of him into his old age, right? I won't be reading his book.
