Tuesday's Blue (Hair) Plate Special: Generation X Blog Posts Galore.

Here are some Generation X blog posts to peruse in your free time. There is some really great, new content out there, so enjoy!

I'll start off with my favorite pick of the week. This blogger is worth the time you will spend navigating to her site. A quintessential Xer, she has FIVE KIDS, she is a homechooler, she’s a lefty, she likes Woody Guthrie (meet me at the folk festival this summer in Okemah - Guthrie is my late grandma's nephew), and she is sporting BLUE PONY TAILS in her profile picture. I like her already. I want blue pony tails. Check out this post, which is a sort of a Gen X bio.

On the flip side, a blogger in Kentucky, “Lisa”, is a “Generation "X" Catholic mom of four with conservative values who blogs on American culture and politics…” The title of her Gen X blog is Why Mommy Is A Republican. Again, I know some of you will want to check her out.

We’re hearing again from Generation X in Iraq in his post, Rifles at Ft. Jackson.

Carla, a blogger from British Columbia, has a blog, 40 – Now What?” I like what her profile says: “I was turning 40, and it sent me into a professional tailspin. I thought I was getting to the end of my working career -- after all, I've accomplished so much. But now I realize I have to work another 25 years! What will I be when I grow up now? I'm a married mother of two boys. I work as a consultant from a home office and have been in my current field, PR, for more than 15 years.”

An article posted online at “Busika” by “vast_expanse” reports on how age subcultures affection consumption. No surprises here. Generation X is resistant to hype advertising.

Here’s a Gen X blog totally not on my radar – and they’ve been writing awhile. I know some of you will really like this. It’s Generation X Movies. The most recent post is a review of An Officer and Gentleman. There are at least 140 posts on this site. This blogger has been at it for a good, long while, but he/she provides zilch-o bio. Hop on over and have a look-see.

Dave Sohligan, the Gen X Files blogger has an opinion editorial cross-posted at OpEd News, in which he asks, “Does Generation Jones exist?” Dave is doing a great job with his blog.

Get ready for real estate agents to start stalking you on Facebook and Twitter. We, along with Gen Y dominate the housing market. (Big surprise.) Since we’re all on Facebook they’re heading that way. Look out.

The blogger, “Sonya” calls her generation, Generation X, Animation Generation. Clever and interesting! I like it. She even has a post titled “My Cubicle” with a picture of it. Ha!

This next blogger has titled his blog, A Gen X’r in Gen Y Land. This fellow is rather interesting. I *think* he lives in Wichita, Kansas. His wife is from Kenya and recently went through her naturalization ceremony. I think he writes a lot about football. Gen X doesn’t appear in his tags, but he obviously identifies with the generation. Enjoy!

This blogger wants Gen X, Baby Boomers and Silents to get off his lawn. This post was a little annoying, but it is well-written and I actually agree with some of what this blogger is saying. Basically, he’s bugged that his “vast playground” (MySpace, YouTube, etc.) is now welcoming/being accessed by Cloris Leachman, Neil Diamond, etc. (Kind of weird, huh?)

It’s an adjustment for him to have his once uninhibited e-world now intruded upon by other Generations. The thing is, Gen X dominated Facebook and Twitter from day one. So, go figure. Like I said, this is a pretty intelligent post. I just take issue with the notion that the early worm should maintain full ownership of anything. After all, Gen X faces the largest adjustment as Gen Y, Gen Z and Boomers all discover social media - particularly is powerful applications to business.

The blogger, Angry Bear, has a post about the dangers of Generation X continuing to support the “prefunding” of Boomer retirement. He has a point.

The Blogger, Mettzorp, has a post with two reviews of Gen X novels, Shampoo Planet by Douglas Copeland and Hairstyles of the Damned by Joe Meno.

That's all the Generation X content I had time to find today. If you find interesting Gen X content, please send it my way. I'll give you a hat tip!

Cool, Jen. Do I still qualify as Gen-Xer? I'm on the edge, so I'm told, but technically, I'm Generation Jones (same age as Obama, don't you know)?

Hey - check out my latest post - it's a fun little ditty about Andy Warhol.

Hey Jen,
I started getting hits on my blog from yours and I came over to figure out why. I think you may have mistook my "get off my lawn" statement. What I meant was that it is hypocritical for "young people" to tell "old people" get off the Internet because it is the same close-mindedness attributed to that crotchety old man yelling at the kids to get off his lawn.

I actually enjoy the influx of "older" folks (I have to keep using quotation marks because I only miss being a Gen X'er by 4 years myself - via the Generations definition - and my ex was one) and have hopes that they'll cause some rise in the maturity in social networking (not high hopes, though).

Thanks for the linkage.
Peace,
- Vinny

@Vinny - Hi there! Thanks for stopping by. I rarely link to anything gen y or boomers write about xers! I thought your post was very smart, and I thought a lot of xers could relate. I'm glad you got some hits off my site, b/c it takes a long time to compile these blue plate special posts - as I call them! Stop by anytime.
