fiestaware

Over the years, I've generally succumb to popular color schemes of the day, but I've also kind of resented the notion of color trends. They make people get rid of perfectly good stuff: harvest gold appliances, orange shag carpet, hunter green this and that, etc. The maroon and navy blue high-end washing machines and dryers of today will be in tomorrow's landfills. I wish I could paint mine pink or light blue. Honestly, nobody would get arrested.

Having said that, I'm just as guilty as the worst offender when it comes to wanting things to look nice, streamlined and even up-to-date. All I'm saying is that I am aware of how superficial it can all be, and in the new economy, hope I can continue to adjust my own bend toward trend.

I do love color as witnessed in my colorful house posts. Here are some colorful cups I recently bought at a junk store. I've listed the prices below each photo.

Green Fiestaware, 79 cents each. I found the saucer on one end of the store and Juliette found the cup on the other. Teamwork!

I posted these on my Mellow Yellow Monday post. They were 50 cents each.

This set was $2.99

Fiestaware - 49 cents

Jen--

What wonderful finds! All you need to make a colorful rainbow is something in blue and lavender. I love Fiesta Ware. Hope you find some more. I'm looking for you too.

Love you-- Gracie

PS: Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Lovely!!! I really like colorful things as well as thrift shops. In fact I buy all my clothes at a local consignment store. So, as you can guess I gave up being trendy long ago & just started finding what I like. I think you are doing the same.

BTW, they make appliance paint so paint what you will any color you like.

Hugs to all!!

Blessed be...

The resident pottery expert chimes in and says: I lerves your Fiesta, but do rec. that you purchase a home lead swab test from your local Lowes or Home Depot and do it to each piece, especially the red ones, before using for food and drink. And I mean that seriously and hope you will do that for all future ceramic purchases, especially those involving cadmium or cobalt glazes. That is all.

Aunt Jenny!!!

I think I got the "color gene" too! I actually have the whole set of varying colors of Fiesta-ware! I love it! Which color is your favorite? Most of my accessories are red (tea pitcher, s/p shakers, creamer/sugar). I do like the green too. :)

Love you,
April

@Farmgirl - I knew I liked you for a reason. =) !!

@Lorrie - Thanks for the recommendation. I had no idea. =0

@April - Wow. What a surprise to see your sweet name on my blog this morning. Just what I needed as i nurse the flu on the last leg of the journey. I didn't know they retired colors until Juliette told her dad about her little find and he told her as much. I think I like the green the best, but also have seen some blue I like. I had no clue it was so expensive. Did you collect your set or was it a gift? Thanks for stopping by. Come visit me more often. =)

Jen...I was JUST KIDDING on the Fiesta! OMGosh...can't believe you actually posted my comment!

You haven't been around me enough lately...you've forgotten that Steve's questionable humor has rubbed off on me after 30 years of marriage!

ACK! LOVE your great finds! Just wish I'd been smarter about "collecting" the stuff myself!

Hope you are feeling better today!

@Rebecca - I thought you wanted me to post it!!! I thought the story about the Nippon China was interesting. I didn't know they offered you Fiestaware or...I remember you showing me the china so many years ago when you and Steve lived in that house behind the church.

I think that pink fiesta thing is missing a lid. Did you see Lorrie's comment about lead paint?#@)*)@#*)@#(%*)(#@%8

Yes...the Lead Paint thing is SCARY! I recently had a post on my blog lead paint (especially on vtg furniture/chippy paint for us Shabby Chic Lovers!).

I think you are right about the pink fiesta...I believe it does call for a lid! Still wonderful!

Hope you are better!

Hey Aunt Jenny,

If you have received a rendition of this email three times, it is because my password was not correct and I finally had to reset it! :)

Fiestaware entered my life when Philip purchased his house (now our home) :) It was a gift from me. We both love color so much. He was afraid that after living with Mom that I would want everything in the house white. Even though I love that style, I am a lover of color down to the core. I love it when I open the cabinets. It's like the dishes say "Hello, April!". The colors are so friendly and happy. Like daisies!

I have enjoyed reading your other posts. You have such a fabulous gift of writing. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.

Are the colored eggs on the header of your blog ones that you did yourself??? They're MAH-VEVLOUS, DAH-LING! :)

Love you lots. Happy Easter!
April
