Some of the Meanest Stuff I've Ever Read About Generation X

A writer in Australia has managed to write some of the meanest words I have ever read in reference to Generation X. Who does this? Who says this stuff? Emma Mayall I guess.

I'll let the Gen X Files, Latchkey Man and Third on the Right handle this. Check out this excerpt from a column she wrote for Australia's QuikSilver Pro:

"There’s little else for them to be cheery about, what with their hungry offspring and hungrier mortgages to contend with during today’s climate of job insecurity. Not to mention the usual greying hair and sagging body parts..."

This isn't even funny - not even in a sarcastic kind of way.

More Blue Plate Special being prepared. I just wanted to hurry up and get this little shrimp off the barbie.

Aren't my food metaphors annoying? Help me. I can't stop it. At least I didn't work in Pop Rocks or Hubba Bubba. Hahahahahaha!

Sounds like Emma has some issues a professional should take a look at.

I think that "Punch in the Face" and Latchkey are the guys for this job!

That was so bitter and horrible I'm shocked. I think in almost every way completely untrue. Except maybe for the hungry offspring line. This financial crisis will hit all generations.

Too bad for Emma Mayall. She insists on painting Gen X with a broad brush. She's forutnate we don't do the same for Gen Y. We respect Gen Y as creative and innovative. We, as Gen X'er's, also understand and apreciate that Gen Y is showing us -- the other generations -- that they have found the way to create a generation that truly is a global community and one that, hopefully, will be able to create prsonal relationships, friendships and businesses that cut across all political affiliations, all religions, all socio-economic classes, and all national boundaries -- that will simply require our respective nations to break down the barriers we held so strongly to in the last century. These Gen Y ties will make us all recognize that we are truly One World (not only a song from the Polcie in the early 80s, but also a great vision for the 21st century). See, Emma? It's that easy to compliment a generation of people and workers. If that's a little too deep for everyone, I quote the Beastie Boys Mike D:"you say [I'm Gen X] and I should be slacking, but I'm working harder than ever, and you can call it macking." Mack it out Gen X, mack it out.

ouch - I'm crying .... not. The last time a gen y comment mattered to me was ..... ummm NEVER.

Having just been and checked out some of Em's work I think it is just the usual attention seeking, spotlight loving, say the stiring thing, mediocre journo content that we seem to breed here in Oz ...

that first line ...

Generation X tends to be a smug lot. Happily, some may soon have the smugness smacked out of them, courtesy of the global financial crisis.

.... just shows a cruelness of spirit that no one should wanna cultivate .... jealous too maybe ...

shame emma shame ... you let us all down with such silliness ...

for a reality check I have known some gen x slackers - bout the same number of gen y and boomer slacker ... proportionaly speaking ...

hugs from a saggy boobs x'er le xoxo
