Look what we found in our garden today:

About two months ago, the kids and I (with Rob’s help) started a garden in the backyard of our home in Oklahoma City. We planted five or six kinds of herbs and three tomato plants along with squash, zucchini, pumpkins, jalapenos, okra, green beans, and these radishes. We’ve seen little progress from anything except the radishes.

We were very excited today when we noticed their pretty red heads sticking up out of the dirt.
I hope this is a fun learning experience for the kids. The only other things that seem to be growing are the tomato plants and pumpkins.

i easily adore your own writing choice, very unique,
don’t quit and keep penning seeing that it just simply nicely to follow it,

We just planted our seeds last month. Two months ago, it was still sub-freezing at night.
@SARA and 80s MOM – I had no idea there was more than one way to eat a radish. Both of these sound irresistable. I’ll give it a whirl.
@REBECCA – Beck – my radises weren’t very spicey. I wonder where I went wrong – maybe in variety? Picking too soon? I remember radishes from our childhood being so potent they stung. I love hearing your memories.
@YOGI – Yeah. Not so good when nothing but radishes and a bean sprout. LOL.
I love when the radishes come up! It means the growing season is under way and in a short time fresh veggies, fruit and warm weather will be in bounty!
Eat them with butter and kosher salt – yummo!
What fun! Don’t give up on the other plants yet– I don’t know the growing season in OKC but it seems like it might be early days yet(?)
I have fond memories of my parents garden, as you do– & I’m sure your kids will have those same sorts of memories once they’re adults.
I do radishes too 😉
If you ever have a lot of them, most people don’t realize that they are just delicious cooked. Just slice them and cook briefly in a little olive oil, salt and pepper. DELISH! Its my favorite way to eat radishes now! Just enough bitterness, but the cooking takes the sting out and makes them slightly sweet.
Jen…
I don’t know if you remember this, but when we were little living in HH daddy, Lin, Billy, You and I planted radishes out by the chain-length fence. I remember the day when they came up (I do believe that is the only thing we planted)! We were all SOOOOO excited… Those babies were HOT HOT HOT, too! But we ate them because they were too special to toss. One of my favorite memories!
Your kiddos will always remember this…always!

Gardening is great when you reap the harvest.
Jen–
What fun! What a learning experience! Don’t give up — When at first you don’t succeed — SOW AND REPLANT. The plants will grow with lots of love, water and sunshine.
Love you– Mom
