little modern house on the praire

Oklahoma City - Urban Pioneers

This house was built around 2004,
just east of Automobile Alley in Oklahoma City.
It's located on NE 7th Street, and is surrounded by empty fields.
Nevertheless, it is 1/4 mile from a major highway;
1/8 of a mile from the train tracks, and
the skyline to the south is a virtual staircase of tall buildings.

This looks like something one would find in "Dwell" magazine. My husband would love it!

I got to see the inside of the place on one of the Architecture Tours. What I said at the time:

"It's a different take altogether on the industrial look: the living areas are darker-colored and seemingly warmer, while the studio in the north wing is light and airy. There's also a marked lack of clutter, though owner Jason Blankenship hinted that out in the garage - well, think Fibber McGee's closet. No one's yet built in the next block, perhaps because no one knows quite how to top this."

@KAT - I wonder if that magazine has ever done any coverage of OKC. Wow. I should write them a query!

@CGHILL - I was so delighted to stumble upon this the other day. I'm sure it received wide coverage when it first showed up, but I was probably pregnant or having a baby at that time. LOL! See above comment - how cool to query DWELL for an article on OKC dwellings. Any ideas??

The architecture sure is interesting.
It must have a lot of stairs to climb. It didn't mention square footage of the house?
Hmmm. Nice quiet area.:)

Jen,
I also saw this house on the AIA tour after it was built. The one thing that I loved most about this house it the focal point at the entry.....a long modern bar. It was a welcome mat like none other I had seen before. What a wonderful way to make a guest feel comfortable in your home. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one needs the alcohol for a welcome. I admired the cozy whisper I felt the room speak to me, "Come dally with me and share the inner spirit of my chamber."

Another downtown jewel on the same tour was the modern home of the Fitzsimmons btw 6th and 7th, a block East of Classen.

Thanks for sharing your lens!
