al sharpton's big nod to generation x

Al Sharpton said the following about kids who embraced Michael Jackson's music: "Those kids grew up to be 40 years old and comfortable enough to elect a Black man president."

I love me some Gen X luv. I love me some Gen X recognition.

I'm not even an Al Sharpton fan, and I had to say "AMEN!" when I heard him say that today.

I keep thinking I'm going to make it to OKC and arrange some time to meet and pick up my gift card, but now I am thinking I should just email my address to you. I'm moving pretty slow these days.

I have a dream that someday we will be judged not by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character. (I'm paraphrasing.) He was one of the first, but he opened the floodgates to more than music. Bless him on his journey beyond.

I love AL! On the 2004 Republican Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage: "The issue of America ain't whose been sleepin' in the bedroom! The issue of America is about who ain't been eatin' in the kitchen!"

So he grandstands once in awhile...

It will be nice when the Al Sharpton’s and Jessie Jackson’s of the world discover that the majority of us who are White do not base talent and art on the color of a person’s skin. Michael Jackson was a genius and the love he put out was felt all over the world by millions and had nothing to do with his race.

And I am over 60. But heck, I’m glad all the younger people joined with us oldies in electing Obama.

40 last August thankyouverymuch! There are about 4 speeches from Al Sharpton that resonate with me. This ranks probably 3rd. The first two are the Rosa Parks eulogy and then the James Brown eulogy. The man brings a message for sure.

@MELINDA - Oh, yes, 1961 kicked off a great thing! =)

@MELESSA - LMK! You deserve this starbucks card!

@NAOMI - I join you in blessing him on his journey beyond. So sad to see those children sad...

@ST. FIACRE - That is a terrific quote. I had not heard that, and he had some very good things to say yesterday. Sometimes, I think I can't take him seriously, but then he usually ends up making so much more sense than 99 percent of his "counterparts."

@LINDA - He was so loved! I never thought of Michael Jackson in the context of color, only in the context of brilliance.

@COULD BE CLEAR - Thanks for stopping by here!! Happy bday in August! 1968 was a good year. Ha!

First, I was like, "Yea, Rev. Sharpton gave us our props!" Then I was like, "Oh shit, Rev. Sharpton off all people."

But yea, I do think Generation X rocks!
