friday5 ■ favorite posts of the week (august 7)

Today, is the beginning of a new feature highlighting five of the best blog posts I've come across this week. I was just about to put the list together yesterday, when I heard that John Hughes died. Thus, it only seems fitting to highlight posts about him. He was a Generation X (by broadest definition 1961-81) icon who helped define a generation's youth. RIP John Hughes. Don't you forget about me.

Sincerely, John Hughes via We'll Know When We Get There
My Life is a John Hughes Movie via The Deeper End of Chaos
Missed: John Hughes via Ex Shoes Me
The Director of My Childhood via Wide World of Stuff

Update: Make that SIX! Check this out: Tribute to John Hughes 1950-2009 via Popcorn in My Bra

Jen,
Thanks for finding those posts. I cried reading about the personal relationship between Alison and John. What an amazing story to tell.

Jen, great insight into a generation. I think a person can define themselves as a genxr if they can quote from several of John Hughes characters. By the way, understand allows people like generation x to tolerate a person from another generation. xoxo

@LEANA - You're about the fifth person I've talked to today that cried over that post. I did, too. I think she cried hardest of all. I read on Twitter that his son contacted her. Her story is a special one.

@KELLY - Thank for allowing me to rip off your brilliant idea. You're my design role model.

@ANONYMOUS - Thank you! I love that quote. Good one!

Jen, thank you so much for adding me. I am humbled to be among such great tributes. Alison's pen pal friendship with John Hughes is so touching. If only more Boomers were like him.
