I'm a pretty suspicious when it comes to claims of how I can save big money, but, after my recent experience looking for cheap auto insurance, I wanted to pass along this information.

Robert and I recently sold his 1998 truck, which means I needed to contact my insurance company to have it removed from our policy. For kicks, I decided to check rates. I'd heard about this Web site, Cheap Auto Insurance through an invitation to write about it on my blog. I checked it out. I typed in my zip code and it returned a number of leading low cost insurance providers in Oklahoma.

I inquired with all of them and I could not believe how much money I could save. I ended up canceling insurance with my former company (not on the list) and went with one recommended from the site. It just so happened to be the same company from whom we currently purchase homeowner's and life insurance. In the past, they were not cheaper than the company we'd gone with, but I guess things change!

Here is how it worked out.

We were paying $170 a month to cover three vehicles. My old insurance company reduced our rate to just over $100 a month after dropping the truck, but the company we ended up going with dropped it to just over $50 a month. That's not all.

Because we ended up going with the company who carries our homeowner's policy, we receive a $500 annual discount, which equates to an additional savings of about $42 a month. So, our total savings turned out to be $162 a month. Of course, part of that is because we are covering one less vehicle, however, as I stated, the quote I received from the original company we had auto insurance from (minus the truck) was still $50 more a month than the "new" provider.

This post was inspired by an offer I received via Pay Per Post, which I signed up for on a whim several months ago. I receive these offers to write about products and subjects periodically, but this is the only one I have ever accepted because I felt like I could write about it in good conscience.
