[excerpt] from a "gen x, cut-throat capitalist."

"...But, diversity also happens to be the very best way to constitute a group of people that is trying to achieve a common purpose, whatever that purpose might be. That’s why this Gen-X, cut-throat capitalist, conservative Republican, born-again Christian, second-generation Asian-American advocates for as much of it as possible."

this is a strange listing of groups.. . is the author trying to say that each of those listed is advocating for diversity? I agree that if diversity truely is allowed to happen, then the common purpose could have an impact and be achieved through working with many different defined groups. But I have a problem with a couple of those groups being listed as for diversity - when every policy proposed, several of the listed groups then advocate to exclude -no hispanic immigrants, no homosexual marriages, no sex education, no to public funded health care, no to public eductaion, etc... thus promoting policies of exceptions or exculsions. Therefore I see several of those listed groups as being exculsionary...not forming coalitions of diverse thought or or organizations of diversity.

I read this post TWICE before I decided to link to it - it was a bit jumbled for me. I agree with everything you've said!
