Boden Hanson, four time Olympian, has written an article about Generation Y athletes in which he talks about the nearing end of the Generation X athlete period, as well as significant differences between the two generations of athletes. Here is a an excerpt:
Sports programs today are dominated with Generation Y (Gen Y) athletes. We are almost at the end of the Generation X (Gen X) athlete period. With the change in generations, there are changes in how to best coach athletes, because as you may have noticed, Gen Y is different to Gen X..."

Thank you for this article. As a manager dealing with a younger generation of employees I feel this article easily applies to the workplace/employer in the same way as it does to sport/coach. I've forwarded it to a couple work committees that deal with such things.

With a few exceptions, it's hard for us to get faster and stronger at our age. Luckily, we can still get smarter.
