They handmade their costumes only to lose in a contest
to a couple of kids dressed up like senior citizens!

"I was born in 1965, and this picture is probably from 1981. I had a wonderful childhood friend from about 6th grade until graduation. We have since connected on Facebook and shared some fun memories. Her dad sold water softeners and always had these types of round containers so we decided that we could make Halloween costumes from them. We worked on them forever. No special computer effects here, we’re talking all hand crafted. Then we took this lovely photo with our Polaroid camera.
"We went to a party at church, I believe, back when churches had Halloween parties with apple bobbing, ghost stories, haunted houses, the whole works. We actually lost the costume contest to a couple of people dressed like senior citizens. We were robbed. The next year we went as McDonald’s French Fries in a box—we lost that year, too. Happy Haunting!

Am I the only one who thinks it's telling that GenXers started the trend of creating costumes from commercial and/or brand name items?
Would seem to make sense consider that we were raised on, and in some case by, TV.
Wow, I have never seen a Campbell's soup can costume, but it certainly is indicative of our generation. I grew up eating it ALL the time.
