I still see a few kids in my neighborhood riding bikes to school, but it's pretty rare. Generation X is probably the last generation to really ride bikes to school on a regular basis. This Oklahoma blogger, Friars Fires weighs in on a new policy in one school district in America now prohibiting kids from riding their bikes to school. Wow, times have really changed.
Here are four more banana seat bicycle posts from Generation X. Enjoy!

I never had a banana bike. It was for kids about 2 or 3 years younger than me. Basically it was for my friends little brothers.
I love the '70's! Thanks for you awesome sharing on the greatest decade ever! My stingray was gold flaked and had the awesome front handbrakes in addition to the foot pedal breaks. Many a bike ride was taken on it as part of the neighborhood gang. It was so much more than just a bike. I wrote about it in my book all about growing up in the '70s. You can check it out here: http://www.my70sbook.com.
Keep on 'truckin!
Jen, I had a banana seat bike not because it was cool to have one, it was because I was cool. xoxo
My first bike was purple and had a rockin' irridescent silver banana silver. When I road that thing, I was the shit!
