three gen x women doing amazing things

In an effort to point out the amazing things Generation X women are doing across the nation, I decided to point out three right here close to home.

The first is the most obvious. Sgt. Kimberly Munley, 34, the Fort Hood Hero. A fellow Okie blogger sent me a link an article in the Washington Post. In true Gen X mom fashion she was coordinating daycare for her two-year-old via cell phone while helping guide fellow soldiers in applying a tourniquet. Her femoral artery was pierced by one of three bullets fired into her and she was experiencing life-threatening blood loss.

When asked my Ann Curry of the Today Show if the balancing act of motherhood and work didn't end even in that moment, Munley said, "Absolutely not. It never does."

Next, my friend Malena Lott, a brand expert, published author and native Oklahoman, has launched a new project and site. You can learn more about it at BookendBabes. It is so impressive what she has managed to pull together in such a short time. Book End Babes is essentially girls night out meets great reads. It's a celebration of both books and girlfriends. Real-life chapters are sprouting up across the country. They have four top picks each month; share book reviews, recipes and prizes. All of this in an effort to start a reading revolution. Start a Book End Babes chapter in your hometown today!

Finally, The Pioneer Woman's cookbook The Pioneer Woman Cooks is #1 on the New York Time's Best Sellers List under the Hard Cover Advice category. Number 1, ya'll! I bet she's the only Gen Xer from Oklahoman to ever make the New York Times Best Sellers list!

Jen, thank you for the shout-out to your fellow Okies...but I'm still sobbing (heaving, like you) over yesterday's post.

I forwarded it to everyone I know.

@REEDRUMMOND! Wow. Thank you for commenting. You make us (Okies) look so good. Hey, not to mention Xers!! Yes, TR told me about that. I was stunned. Thank you. As you can imagine, I received a ton of hits from that. Sorry to make you cry. It's really bad when my own stuff makes me cry. It usually sobers me. Now, I'm off to make the green chile recipe. Oh, and I love double negatives. Ha!!!

Jen, thank you for mentioning me! Could this be why Thursday I had the highest page views yet since BEbabes inception? I give you total credit, girl! Andi, I'd love to talk to you about starting a Book End chapter in your area!
