Today was the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade in Oklahoma City. We had a great time! The kids really loved the Llamas! I loved the Native American on the Harley Davidson with his Nam 66 and Vietnam 67 patches. Nearly 12 percent of Oklahoma’s population is Irish. More than 11 percent are Native American, primarily Cherokee.

My dad reminded my siblings and me about our Irish and Indian heritage at least 10,000 times growing up. I grew up cherishing the fact that I had strong ties to Ireland and the Cherokees.
In Oklahoma, it’s easy to celebrate the heritage of both. I go to Red Earth Festival every year and as long as I am alive and can walk I will be at 5th and Broadway watching the best St. Patrick’s Day Parade on earth go marching by.
The following are my four favorite things to do in Oklahoma City during the St. Patrick’s Day season.
The Oklahoma City St. Patrick’s Day Parade
This is the best annual parade in Oklahoma City. I absolutely love going. You won’t be disappointed if you come. It’s a real treat!
As I mentioned, I blogged about the parade last year and posted some photos. Someone at The San Francisco Chronicle liked it enough to link to it. It’s nice that Oklahoma City is in the mix with bigger St. Paddy’s Day parades like the ones in New York City and Chicago!
Sean Cummings Irish Restaurant and Pub
Robert likes to order the fish and chips. I go for the traditional Irish soda bread. They often have live music. You gotta try Sean Cummings!
Flogging Molly at the Diamond Ballroom – All Ages Welcome!
This will be my best St. Patrick’s Day ever. The Irish band Flogging Molly will play at Oklahoma City’s Diamond Ballroom on Tuesday, March 15. Tickets are $29. This is an all-ages event so you can bring your kids! Below is a YouTube video of Flogging Molly singing the ballad So Sail On. They are probably best known for Drunken Lullabies.
Shamrock Shakes
I just blogged about my Shamrock Shake Sighting adventure in Oklahoma City. I made some homemade shamrockish shakes the other day and tweeted this photo. I have to call them shamrockish shakes because Shamrock Shake is a registered trademark. Ack.
