When the Brat Pack of John Hughes fame appeared on stage at the Oscars Sunday night, I was like WHOA!!!!! Who are those people? If I'd passed Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwold or Anthony Michael Hall on the street, I'm not sure I would have recognized them. Then, I read something James Poniezowik wrote about the Oscars in a Time Magazine blog post:
"...an extended, and sweet, tribute to John Hughes (even if the appearance of a crew of Hughes alumni aged the self-image of Generation X about ten years).
Did your self-image age Sunday night? What do you think about the Brat Pack after all these years? I'm thinking remake, remake. There are plenty of new Gen X archetypes the pack can explore and develop: the over-educated; the under-employed; those who've left the church, and let's not forget, the hyper-parent. Ha!

I kinda hope this isn't in the works. Michael Cera playing Anthony Michael Hall's role in Breakfast Club, Zooey Deschanel as Ally Sheedy. I love the new crop of actors, I'm just always anti-remake.
PS I feel old when I see child stars from the 1980s are now fathers.
Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing
@ALLY - I'm thinking as in the breakfast club 25 years later - all teh characters are in their late 30s and 40s. Ha!
It was good to see how they all look today because in MY MIND they will always be as they were seen on the big screen.
The only one in the group that made me sad was McCully Culkin. What happened to the sweet little face from Home Alone and My Girl? He looked gaunt and pale. Oddly odd and fragile...
I think we've held up pretty well against the aging Brat Pack gang. Molly Ringwald looked good, and John Cryer seems well preserved. What's with Judd Nelson though?
I followed your lead and blogged on the Hughes tribute too at http://wp.me/pJJjz-4A.
I was watching the Oscars with my Gen-Y niece. When Jon Cryer was highlighted she said, "Oh! there's the guy from 'Two and a Half Men!'"
No no no no no NO!!! He is, and always will be, DUCKIE!
I was proud the Academy gave such a special personal tribute to John Hughes. I never expected anything more than a pic in the montage video of those-who've-died.
And what I WOULD like to see would be "The Sunday Brunch Club." The BC grown up, middle agers with kids, with the movie highlighting where they've been, warts and all. Claire and Allison are best friends and business partners, owning a marketing firm. Brian ditched college his sophomore year and took off on a motorcycle cross-country trip to find himself and eventually became a Presidential speech writer. John Bender surprised everyone and is a divorced college professor whose life revolves around his 8-year-old daughter. Stuff like that.
Jen,
I don't feel like I suddenly aged 10 years... In fact, I still feel very much like I did when I first watched Breakfast Club. What makes me feel like I'm aging is seeing friends who's kids are old enough to vote... or are making grandparents out of their parents.
All the best,
D
awww, i thought molly looked beautiful. her comment about hughes, 'he took the pain of growing up and related it to everyone,' was remarkably true.
