Who is marketing to Generation X?
Embattled automaker Toyota is trying to bring back the minivan. Have you seen this commercial? It's total Gen X satire, and actually spoofs Ephron's When Harry Met Sally. At two minutes, 27 seconds, it's pretty entertaining even if it pushes the envelope on insulting.
I mean, honestly, do we act like that? I think Generation X surrendered the colloquial language of Saturday Night Live somewhere between the exit of Adam Sandler and the entrance of Jon Stewart and The Daily Show. One guy is so annoyed, he's suggested taking up a collection to hire a hit man to deal with the family. What do you think?
Will you ever buy a minivan? I swore I never would, but with three kids, it's starting to look like a viable option.

I think it's very funny, to be honest. It has Christopher Guest all over it. (if not him, then someone influenced by him, for sure!)
No on the minivan. It's too much like the station wagon I was forced to drive as a teen-ager which was before the invention of the mini-van. Yikes!
I'd never buy a Mini Van again. Twice was bad enough.
Want to know what I really notice about the commercial? The dude playing the dad/hubbs is in on a string of SONIC commercial here in Oklahoma.
He's stupid-funny. Love him!
Besides, how many minivans are there left? GM, Ford and Nissan have bailed out of that market segment entirely, figuring the take might be better on so-called "crossovers."
Just once, I'd like to see someone - maybe Dodge, which still sells the Grand Caravan - pitch the minivan as not just "swaggering," but downright badass.
