It's prom season! Every year, I look forward to seeing teenagers in tuxedos escorting their prom divas to dinner at one of the restaurants along the Bricktown Canal in OKC. I find this so amusing, before I had kids,
I actually made note of the date of at least one big, local prom. I'd make a point to have dinner that night on the balcony at Chelino's in order to sneak a peek at the delightful ridiculosity of it all.
Several times over the years, I've seen groups of prom-bound teens in OKC gather outside a parent's house for group pictures. Just so you know, it's usually the house of the parent who rents the limo. (Taking notes for future reference.)
My high school prom was May 4, 1985. It wasn't nearly as big of a deal as proms are today, but it sure was fun! This first picture was taken at my senior prom. All the rest are from Flickr by way of the Creative Commons License. Enjoy!

Yes, I went to my senior prom, May, 1983. Thankfully my pictures are missing. I did have the poodle perm, gag.
My May '89 prom still had the giant wicker chair.
What's funniest to me in looking at these photos is that I recognize specific dresses in them that people I know wore. Everybody got the same Gunne Sax dresses from the department stores...not the outrageously priced couture and one-of-kinds the girls get today.
some of the prom divas here now look more like porn divas with teh plunging necklines, the short short short skirts and the thigh high splits .... I am getting old :) my mum made my gradualtion dress - midnight blue, I wore fingerless black gloves aka cira 1984 and felt sooooo grown up :) le xoxo
