I’m always interested in how generations and various other audience demographics are framed and cast in commercials. I find it especially interesting how commercials have depicted women in ad campaigns throughout the years.
Domestic Psychological Horror was its own mini-genre during the 60s and early 70s. Think Psycho and Rosemary’s Baby, etc. Here are some funny commercials that play out like a parody of that genre.
They’re hilarious, really. I thought they’d entertain you this Mother’s Day, especially the Dixie Cup commercial with its horror-film style score and ominous narrator.
The average mother of two washes 20 glasses a day totaling 7,000 a year. Install a Dixie Cup dispenser and save your life!
This snapping suitcase caught me by surprise. I am certain this woman has potential to solve problems far bigger than the ring around her husband’s collar. Still, women who care about things like this that much are pretty cool indeed.
This one is the scariest of all. Notice what a jerk the dad is and how once the mom takes an aspirin the family is calm and happy.

Happy Mother’s Day, friends! May your life be free from domestic psychological horror.
