I pretty much dig Gen Y, but this report reminds me of every 20-something I have ever known who has applied for a senior-level position a Gen Xer is not only in line for, but has patiently waited as many years to promote into as the Gen Yer is (practically) old.
For the record, I have yet to know one Gen Y that has leap-frogged an Xer into an executive position. I do know some younger Xers who have leap-frogged younger Boomers, but for the most part what I am seeing is younger Boomers and older Xers promoting into positions older Boomers and younger Silents are vacating through retirement.
It is just the natural order of things whether it serves an organization or business well or not. For the most part, talent and education are rewarded, but only after someone has earned his or her stripes.
Here is a description of Generation Y from the report, which, by the way, also includes interesting information about all generations as they relate to customer service.
"If a generation had a slogan, this would fit Gen Y perfectly. Gen Y believes that all things are possible. They want to be gratified instantly.
The stereotypical Gen Y thinks all things are customizable and instantly available.
Gen Y wants the world their way and they want it now. And, did I mention that they see no need to pay for the additional work their request might entail? As far as they are concerned, you should be paying them for helping to make your product better."

This does seem to fit the Gen Y'ers to a T...love your blog! I have started a Gen X blog and have you as an Online Xer in my link list..thank you for doing so much work regarding Xers. I think it is high time we decide for ourselves how we want to be perceived instead of the media doing it for us. I don't think Alan Greenspan knew what he was talking about in the video. But it sure is getting a lot of attention.
@STACIE - i tried to find your blog, but it led me to a blank/Google page. Yes, Greenspan is getting a lot of ink over that asanine remark. What a tool!
The site is so new that I messed up the address! It is www.gen-xersonline.com I am trying to find more Gen X bloggers of any subject to make a really rich link list of bloggers and sites about this subject...don't feel the need to publish this comment as it is directed just to you! thanks!
