Kaiser’s Soda Fountain

I’ve continued the tradition this year of taking my kids on mini after-school adventures. I wish I could have planned more, but I have a few more places to hit and things to do between now and the end of May.

Last week, we stopped by Kaiser’s Soda Fountain in the Midtown District of Oklahoma City. They love to go to Kaiser’s! It’s changed hands a few times over the years (decades). The current setup including menu, food and atmosphere are the best (IMO).

Sullivan: Most Likely To Order a Vanilla Shake and play in the NHL.

Kaiser’s should pay this employee more money just to keep up her cool look. She definitely added to our experience! That giant ceramic ice cream reminds me of AVON lip glosses I had as a kid.

Juliette: Most Likely To Order a Chocolate Malt and Spend a Year in New York After High School.

Bridgette: Most Likely To Order a Brown Cow and Spend a Year in New York After Pre-K.
From Dr. James S. Taylor, Angelicum Academy“In living, and moving and having something of our being in a home culture, even with its all-too-human fuss and bother, if we but smuggle in something of the simple cargo – sturdy, comfortable furniture, fresh food, home cooked meals, good wine, one set of fine china for special meals, paintings and ancestral portraits on the wall, an old upright piano, acoustic guitar, any non-electric instrument, a time set apart to read aloud before prayers and bedtime – if we but make a welcome hearth for the songs of the Muses, we too will know that even on this earth, now and again, a courage will visit among us in those comforting, beautiful reflections of the permanent things, quite surprising yet strangely familiar for us who are passing to and fro in these playful shadows, and we will begin to see as Odysseus recognized, “something very much like perfection.”

May your life be filled with playful shadows, paintings and bedtime prayers!

I just ate at City Bites last week! I love that place. It became very popular during the mid-to-late 80s. My college friends and I ate there often. They had a sandwich called Seafood Delight, which I ordered religiously, but they quit making it. I will have to do a post just for you! My kids do like it with all their cool decor. Thanks for the comment. Tulsa is a great place. I’ve often wished I lived there instead of OKC, but I’ll take whichever one I can get!

What a great quotation. Loved this part: “if we but make a welcome hearth for the songs of the Muses, we too will know that even on this earth, now and again, a courage will visit among us in those comforting, beautiful reflections of the permanent things…” Really nice.

I lived in T-Town for a couple of years in the early 2000s.  We visited OKC a couple of times while living there. You ever eat at City Bites? I need to see if you have a post on it here. I have an old connection with that place. A long story about a lost friend… But I did love the sandwiches! For the next adventure, I vote for that place (if you have not done it already. I’m going to check it out now…).

And OMG, I remember those Avon lip glosses, lol. That was a trip down memory lane! Thank you for that!

Raising kids is so hard, Rose. When you talk about raising your Gen Xers it gives me so much hope!

NOW I know why I killed myself and went 4 nights a week with only 4 hours of sleep for years to provide all of this magic for my children growing up!  No kidding, I totally appreciate the affirmation of the ways I pulled myself apart to raise my children.  Wonderful soda fountain treats here in great photo captures, Jen!
