Oklahoma Girl Is Finalist in Doodle 4 Google

Janessa C., a 2nd grader from Stilwell, Oklahoma (population 3,276) is one of 10 finalists in the annual Doodle 4 Google contest (K-3rd grade category). The schoolgirl beat out 103,950 other entries and is the only person in all of Oklahoma to be among the initial 250 finalists.

Please go online to VOTE for JANESSA! Here is a copy of her doodle, which depicts the answer to the contest theme question, “If I could travel in time, I’d visit…” (Japan).

I love the cherry blossoms and dragon.

If Janessa wins, her artwork will appear on the Google homepage and she’ll win some cool prizes. Also, according to information on this web page, Janessa’s artwork will be part of a Doodle 4 Google exhibit at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. OKCMOA was involved in the project earlier this year.

LOL! It’s Japanese. There is actually about a 5 percent Pacific-Islander population in Stilwell. I’m wondering if maybe her family isn’t Japanese-American and she’s responding to the Google theme of “If I could travel in time I’d visit…”

But, I did wish it was Oklahoma-centric. That would have been really cool.
