Jesus Graffiti

One of the unexpected benefits of my interest in graffiti – photographing it and seeking to understand it as an art form – is how well received my posts have been among graffiti artists and train writers. I’ve only written about graffiti 33 times on this site, but I now receive more emails about these posts than I do about all other subjects combined. I’m reminded of what one of my favorite writers, Brenda Ueland, wrote in her book, If You Want To Write, “You know, I have come to think listening is love, that’s what it really is.”

Recently, a graffiti artist in Oklahoma City reached out to me on Facebook and shared with me links to some of his work. This is the first graffiti of Christ I have come across locally.

Graffiti Stencil of Jesus: It is finished.

The artist has a Facebook page, Fame Tetelestai. That second word is Greek and it means “It is finished.” Those are the last words Jesus spoke before he died.

Jesus Graffiti FAME

The artist uses graffiti as a tool in ministry. He uses methods based on folk art to spread the message of salvation. Most of his graffiti appears in south Oklahoma City.

I’ll be sharing more of this graffiti artist’s work in the near future! He’s a wonderful young man and I really like his stencil of Christ.
