Halloween is the one holiday where you get to be whoever you want to be and you don’t have to buy anybody any presents. It just seems to get better and better with each passing year. But, once-in-awhile, I get a hankering for some Old School Halloween.
You know — trick-or-treating with a sheet over my head (preferably not floral); dragging a huge pillow case full of candy around the block and checking my apples for razors.
Generation X Halloween Pictures
So, I’m bringing back my vintage Halloween photo feature from 2010. Every day during October I will feature a different image of Halloween from days gone by including your favorite — Gen Xers celebrating Halloween as kids.
Here is a photo from the East New York Project, an archive of Riccardo Gomes’s childhood neighborhood. Today, it’s referred to as the Highland Park area of Brooklyn.
This photo was submitted to the project by New Yorker Diane Marinconz who lived on Nichols Street in the late 1970s. I love the well-placed orange, 70s-era Cutlass Supreme (??) in the background.

…here is a very funny episode. The Pink Panther opts to fix his leaky shower instead of hiring a plumber for “$7.50 an hour.
The Pink Panther began airing on Saturday mornings in 1969, although it was originally created for the opening and closing segments of the 1963 action movie of the same name. Up until this past December, the cartoon continued airing on the Cartoon Network. Today, Spanish dubbed versions can be seen on Telemundo. The theme to The Pink Panther, composed by Henry Mancini is one of the most recognizable ever written.
