That 80s Show: Cartoon Network’s Regular Show

The Regular Show

Have you heard of The Regular Show? It’s chock full of references to the 1980s.

Unless you’re a fan of the Cartoon Network, you might have missed it. I don’t let my kids watch CN, so if not for an article in USA Today, I wouldn’t have known about it. I haven’t seen it yet, but I did check out a few clips on YouTube. It looks pretty good!

In this episode, the characters get chased by a gigantic cell phone from the 1980s.

This episode is a nod to Footloose.

And, this is the live-action video they created in celebration of reaching 1 million Facebook fans.

In case you haven’t noticed, the 80s are enjoying quite a revival these days. When I was in high school, we had 50s Days. Now, they have 80s Days. When I shopped for the kids’ Halloween costumes this year, the shelves were stocked full of 1980s fashions from punk-rocker wigs to neon-colored fishnets. We’re also in the midst of an 80s fashion revival.

Have you seen Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2013 lineup? The French designer called it a tribute to iconic 80s pop stars including Madonna, Annie Lennox, Boy George, Grace Jones, David Bowie, George Michael, Sade, Prince and Abba.
