Santa Land in Putney, Vermont provided a lot of happy memories for at least four generations of American children who visited the Christmas theme park over the years. I would have loved this place!
Unfortunately, over the years it fell into disrepair. Eventually, it disappeared from the local Chamber of Commerce brochures, and last year, Santa Land called it quits. They’d been in business for 54 years. Rising gas prices got the best of them and Santa, like so many Americans these days, was evicted.
But, hold the reindeer!
According to the really terrific website and blog, Roadside America, last month (November 2012) a secret Santa stepped in and provided financial support to the Christmas theme park. Santa Land is now open on weekends through Christmas, and has narrowly escaped auction.
This picture was taken at Santa Land in 1971. It was found among slides a Flickr user picked up at a garage sale.

The picture (above right) is what Santa Land looked like a few years ago. In 2006, one of the four original vintage statues was stolen. It was found submerged in a pond. It was retrieved, albeit with a cracked mitten and pelvis! Poor Santa.
