So, Target isn’t exactly known for having a great music selection, but I like Target and so that’s where I went to find the new John Denver tribute album The Music Is You. When I asked the sales associate, a nice teenage boy with red polka-dot earrings that matched his red Target shirt, if they had the album he said he’d never heard of it and [gasp] had never heard of John Denver.
Now, John Denver is not exactly the music of Generation X. But, this is what you get when you grow up with older siblings. You end up like their generation’s music before you like your own. And, so it went with me. I became a fan of John Denver in the 2nd grade.
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been enjoying the music of the young Gen X folk singer, Brett Dennen. He has a song on the tribute album that is one of my favorite: Annie’s Song. He sings it with Milow.
