Not only do I have the most common name for women of my generation, Jennifer, I also have one of the most common birthdays. And, to think I had nothing to do with being this unoriginal. Heeeee!
According to the website, BirthdayPlanet, I have the third most popular birthday in the entire world: September 30. It is the second most popular in the city where I live, Oklahoma City. September 29, is the most popular birthday in the United States. I missed it by a day.
Find People Who Share Your Birthday
One of the coolest features of Birthday Planet is the opportunity it provides to find people who share your birthday. Anyone who signs up becomes part of the database of profiles and pictures. Privacy be damned. You can sign in using Facebook, Twitter or Google+. (By the way, I’m seeing a lot more sites incorporating Google+ access tokens lately.)
I have always wanted to find my birthday twin — someone born at the same hour, on the
same day in the same year as me. 6 p.m., September 30, 1967. Bonus points if they were born in Los Angeles. Maybe through BirthdayPlanet I’ll be able to find him or her. I wonder if we’ll look alike. Ha!
Birthday Party Planning Tool
Another great feature of this site (how come I’m just finding out about this!) is a birthday party planning tool. You set the parameters for the type of birthday party you want to throw — indoors or outdoors — lounge or adrenalin — over $500 or under $200, etc. The tool filters results and gives you party ideas. I have four birthday parties to plan over the next three months, and I found this post, Top 9 Awesome Birthday Games for Kids useful. The Donut Dangle and the Marshmallow Tower look especially fun.
Teenage Birthday Parties
As our kids get older and enter the teen years, they don’t want birthday parties like they did when they were little. Last year was the first year we didn’t have a big party for Juliette, my 15-year-old. This really bummed me out! Here is a link to the birthday party we threw her when she turned 14. Interestingly, this is one of the most popular posts on this site. It gets a lot of search engine traffic from search queries that include phrases like “teen birthday party.” BirthdayPlanet has a section dedicated to teen birthday parties. This is a growing section of the site. Additional content will be added in time. For now, here is a great link to a Sporty Sweet 16 Cheerleader Themed Party.
Adult Birthday Parties
Birthday Planet encourages everyone to celebrate birthdays including their own. They emphasize that birthday parties aren’t just for kids. Here is a post highlighting four games you have to play on your 21st Birthday. I don’t remember turning 21, but I am positive I did not play the game Musical Men. I would not forget that. Haha! Don’t worry — this Birthday Planet post is very PG if not G.
