First of all, the South Korean girl band of nine (yes, nine) called Girls’ Generation really clogs up my Google alerts and search engine result pages. I’m set up for keyword searches (generation, etc.) and about every third or fourth entry is about them.

Secondly, how have they made it six years without killing each other? It’s seriously impressive. Because everyone knows that by and large all girls hate girls. It must be true because vlog star Jenna Marbles says so.

But, aren’t they adorable? Seven of the nine were born in 1989. One was born in 1990 and the youngest in 1991. And, maybe if they love themselves, they won’t hate each other. Because, all the research says that’s the ticket. A woman can only be friends with a woman who loves herself. Otherwise, she will despise you.

Here is a pretty sweet line from Girls’ Generation song My Best Friend.

There is only one of you in this world my friend
You’re my joy and my soul
I’ll continue to treasure our importance
I swear to God
I love you my friend
You’re my life’s present my friend
You’re my jewel. My miracle
I’ll protect my appreciative heart
Once again, I swear to God
I love you my friend

Anyway, Girls Generation will be singing the National Anthem (as in the Star Spangled Banner) next Sunday, July 28, at a Dodgers Baseball game. Below is a video of their #1 hit Gee, which was named Song of the Decade for South Korea.

Girls’ Generation began a foray into the Japanese music scene in August 2010 and topped various Japanese music charts. After their huge success in Japan, the group made the cover of Japanese economic weekly “Nikkei Business” magazine. By making comparisons between Girls’ Generation and Korean global companies, such as Samsung and Hyundai, the magazine drew a parallel between the secret of the band’s success and Korea’s growing business acumen in general. Girls’ Generation will release their new single ‘The Boys’ online worldwide. The song was composed and arranged by Teddy Riley, who is most prominently known for his work with the late Michael Jackson. The new album containing the single ‘The Boys’ will be released worldwide by Universal Music Group and is expected to generate great response from music fans across the globe. In the U.S., Girls’ Generation will release a Maxi Single in December through Interscope Records, a record label owned by Universal Music Group and home to artists such as Lady Gaga, Eminem, and The Black Eyed Peas.

Finally, I’ll leave you with this sweet quote from Girls’ Generation band member Tiffany, a San Francisco native.

“In life we are tested by major changes, delayed promises, impossible problems, unanswered prayers, undeserved criticism, and even senseless tragedies. He tests faith through problems; hope by how we handle possessions…love through people. Thank you for testing my character to reveal my weaknesses, prepare me for more responsibilities, and making every day and each second as a growth opportunity to deepen my character, demonstrate love, and to depend on You. During the time between the last album, I am amazed by your beautiful, unending, preserving (the list will go on forever) love and because I learn something new from it everyday, and this is what I want to tell the world. I will sing of your love with every breath in me. Thank you, Father God.”
