It’s Sunday! Time for some vintage religion.Today’s theme focuses on rapture movies and eschatology, that part of theology that deals with the end times and the ultimate destiny of humanity.
Every generation gets at least one rapture movie. Between now and October, Generations Y and Z will have an opportunity to experience two: The Remaining starring Alexa Vega, Italia Ricci, Johnny Pacar, and Liz Morgan opens September 5, and Left Behind: The End Begins starring Nicholas Cage. opens in mid-October.
Josiah Lee had this to say about The Remaining:
…This movie surpassed every expectation and is a must see. This is not your typical “cheesy” Christian movie. It’s an interpretation of what it would be like to survive at the end of days. This movie was specifically designed to reach young males who love horror movies. I am telling you, you need to see this movie. Very powerful, convicting, and thought provoking.
Remember A Thief In The Night from 1972?
Here’s some unsettling rapture art. I don’t know the artists for the first two works, but I’ve noted the sources.
Have you ever seen a scary rapture movie? How did it make you feel about End Times?
