I love it when readers share links and stories with a Gen-X angle like the one below from Leo Chavez. It’s about Jeremy Delle, a 15-year-old boy who killed himself in his English class in 1991. Pearl Jam wrote about the tragedy in their song Jeremy, which is actually based on two different boys. The second boy, Brian, opened fire on a junior high school oceanography class in San Diego. Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder was at school that day and knew the kid. You can read all the lyrics to Jeremy, and an explanation of the song’s lyrics in a post on Genius.
For the first time since Jeremy died, his mother Wanda Crane has spoken publicly about his death. Miraculously, she’s transformed a horrible loss into ministry. This amazing woman leads Grief Share at her local church.
I went through Grief Share many years ago. It is a wonderful program, and I highly recommend it to anyone suffering loss. The program I went through was led by a dear friend whose son was killed by lightning while practicing football in the rain. I will never, ever forget her or her tragedy and how she ministered to me and helped me. I know Ms. Crane is helping so many people. God bless her. Rest-in-peace young Jeremy, always 15, and in the arms of the Lord for nearly 30 years.
As always, I invite your comments, emails and Gen-X photos. They really do help keep this tiny Gen-X space on the Internet going.
