Bridgy’s Junior Girl Scouts Bridging Ceremony (Pictures)

My daughter Bridgette recently had her Girl Scouts bridging ceremony. We celebrated her flying up from Brownies to Juniors with friends and cookies! New pins and badges, too. She was so excited to reach another milestone on the brief and beautiful journey known as childhood. It seems like yesterday she bridged from Daisies to Brownies.

Since tomorrow (October 31) is Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday, I thought I’d share with you some pictures from the ceremony. Low founded Girl Scouts in 1912. She was such an amazing, compassionate and independent woman. I’m glad my little girl gets to be a part of the movement she started so many years ago.

That’s my Bridgy in the middle. Look how happy all her friends look. LOL!

I participated in the ceremony by making the bridge. Home Depot let me have a wood pallet and I bought 6-foot fence boards to complete the look. It’s pretty home-jobby, but what the heck. It would have been practically free if I hadn’t blown money on spray paint. The wood was so porous it drank it up, so I ended up using spare house paint. Ha! The bridge matched our house. I used a hot pink crepe paper flowers and a pennant to give the bridge more oomph.

As the girls crossed over the bridge, we played Israel Kamakawiwo’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow. We announced their names and their leaders gave them hugs, badges, and certificates. All in all, it was a very sweet time for everyone.

Rainbow Cookies

These awesome rainbow cookies from 1 Smart Cookie in Oklahoma City certainly added to the sweetness of the Girl Scouts Bridging Ceremony.

American Girl Girl Scout Outfit

Bridgy’s Girl Scouts leader bought her this sweet Girl Scout uniform for her American Girl doll. I took this picture just the other day on a fog-filled morning.

This is the wonderful song we played during the bridging ceremony. I love it so much. Please have a listen.

…Someday I’ll wish upon a star
Wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where trouble melts like lemon drops
High above the chimney top
That’s where you’ll find me…
