Forbes blogger Jenna Goudreau has written a post about miserable Generation X and Y women, Are Today’s Women Drowning In Generational Anxiety?
It seems despite having more choices than any of the generations of women who have gone before them, Generation X and Y women are miserable, their happiness documented in a 2009 study The Paradox of Female Happiness.
Here is an excerpt from Goudreau’s post:
“These Gen X and Gen Y ‘choisters’ are the first group of educated, liberated women with the autonomy to do as they please. There’s no map and very few female role models to lead the way. Men, on the other hand, have been taught for centuries to go forth, conquer and provide.
“Meanwhile, today’s young women face the added burden of great expectations. Their parents cooed ‘you go girl;’ their teachers instructed ‘be all you that you can be;’ and society cheered they could ‘have it all.’ It backfired.”

@HEYRAY – Would love to read it if you find it.
@BELLAVIDA – I have to admit the whole thing left me feeling flat. And, the word CHOICESTER – blehhh. Very SNL, but not funny.
Wow, I actually remember writing a journal entry about exactly this subject almost 20 years ago, when I was in college and trying to decide on a major, a career, what direction to take my serious relationship at the time, my dreams and ambitions. This makes me want to find that entry and write a followup. Thanks for this post!
