Disco Jennifer Chantal Benoist (Famous Jennifers)

I couldn’t sleep last night and so I got up and started poking around YouTube for a song about Jennifer for the Jennifer Chronicles. I came across this lovely little ditty, Jennifer Disco: Do It For Me.  At first, I thought the song was your typical discotheque ridiculosity, but it reaches new heights of goofy around 1 minute 18 seconds. I can’t post the video because sharing has been disabled, so click on the link. Once you get to the part with the nice Tudor houses, that’s where I laughed myself silly. All alone in my basement office at 3 a.m.

So, I did a little research and Jennifer was the stage name of Chantal Benoist. The song Do It For Me was written by Jean Denis Perez in 1976. It was a big success in Italy as was Jennifer. She appeared in Adriano Celentano’s movie Geppo il folle and Figlio delle stelle.

I have no clue what happened to the Jennifer made famous by Chantal Benoist.

This is terrific!!! I tried to find out more. I mean – I spent at least an hour hunting down information, but just couldn’t turn up anything I could make sense of. This is great. Thank you. I think she’s 61. I found somewhere that she was born in 1954. I wonder if she’ll read my blog post. =0 Do the French google themselves? The Internet is such a big black hole that can suck you in, but stuff like this makes it fun. Especially the link to the son on Twitter. What a cool find. Thanks, Karin!

I found some info! I found some info!

I love little Internet search puzzles like this, so I did some searching. It helps that I can read some French. Jennifer, this post reports (in French), is the wife of French actor Gérard Lanvin. I did a little research on him, and yes, Chantal Benoist became Jennifer Lanvin. One problem with searching under this name is that “Lanvin” is a fashion house in France, and a certain Jennifer Lopez wears that designer a lot, apparently. Hard to find info without J-Lo interference. But there are a few more clues…

Looks like Jennifer possibly became an “actrice X” as it points out in the blog post linked there (I’m pretty sure you can figure out what that is 😉 ). She was on the cover of French Elle N° 1835 in March of 1981. Also a cover of “Femme d’Aujourd’hui” issue 8551 in 1985 (with Gérard).

This singer, Manu, is one of their sons together: https://twitter.com/manulanvin

My guess is that she is leading a fairly cushy life in Paris, somewhere in the 16th arrondissement. Or Boulonge-Billancourt, where Gérard is from. He is 63 — she has got to be right around that age, too. Maybe in her late 50s?

I don’t know about you, but I feel quite satisfied with that. Who knows? Maybe when I lived in Paris, I walked right by her at some point!! Funny to think about that, eh?
