As if raising smart, fit, and disciplined children isn’t hard enough, current generations of parents must now deal with the Internet and too much screen time. Only history will fully reveal how much early access to the Internet has negatively impacted Gen Y and Generation Z.
Are we raising stupid children?
It is a constant challenge in our house to limit the amount of time our kids spend in front of the Wii, iPad, and TV every day. We have to constantly reinforce limits and redirect their energies away from the digital world.
A friend of mine is a pediatrician and she limits her kids’ “screen time” to two hours a day. We adopted this rule, but it can be hard to keep, especially during winter and on weekends. Two hours sounds like a lot, but it adds up very quickly; which reminds me, I need to go buy a timer.
