Sixteen years ago today, I became a mother. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I am so grateful for my beautiful daughter, Juliette! I am glad she has been with me these last 16 years. I’m hoping for many, many more!
We threw her a birthday party over the weekend with a bunch of her friends. I love to throw parties for my kids at home. It’s more work than going to a restaurant or park, but well worth it.
Sweet Sixteen Birthday Party
I had no idea what to do for a girl’s 16th birthday party, so I decided to build the theme around Juliette’s favorite food, Chinese cuisine! I bought a bunch of cheap decorations at Super Cao Ngyen, a local Asian supermarket, and we got takeout from Panda Express. (I highly recommend the Panda Feast, which easily fed 15 hungry teenagers!)
Chinese Takeout Goody Bags
For party favors, I picked up red Chinese takeout boxes at Party Galaxy and Dollar Tree and filled them with Chinese candy, Chinese soap and Joss paper. I was running short on time because I’ve been sick so instead of making homemade cupcakes, I picked some up at Neighborhood Wal-Mart. Very fancy, I know, but hey, they worked. They were red velvet with red sprinkles, so some serious Chinese luck was with me.
To round out the theme I sliced up a bunch of oranges and served iced tea. We also had a big bowl of Pocky and burn-your-nostrils Wasabi.
Happy Birthday, Juliette! We wish you joy and luck and all the blessings God can provide!
I love the invitation. Where did you get it?
Thank you. I am going to try to replicate them if you don’t mind! My daughter, Jade, is turning 16 this September. They are perfect!
What a lovely idea for a party! Your daughter is gorgeous!!! 🙂
