Vintage First Communion Pictures
Here’s a random assortment of vintage First Communion photographs I’ve been collecting. There’s one thing that doesn’t change through the generations: the color of the dress is always white.
Many of the older photos are from France and Poland. My favorite of the lot, however, is the next to the last one of the boy and girl. They’re a couple of Gen Xers from New York. Their First Communion was in 1982 and their uncle captured it with Kodak Kodacolor 400.
By now, you’ve probably heard some of the controversial statements made by Pope Francis. Here is one of my favorites:
“I see clearly that the thing the church needs most today is the ability to heal wounds and to warm the hearts of the faithful; it needs nearness, proximity. I see the church as a field hospital after battle. […] The church sometimes has locked itself up in small things, in small-minded rules. The most important thing is the first proclamation: Jesus Christ has saved you.”
France and Poland? Those vintage shots look like my St. Isidore school days in the late 60s! Love the Pope quote.
