“Of the Marines on Iwo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue” — Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz
I had a meeting in a small town in rural Oklahoma yesterday. While driving down Main Street, I spotted two men installing a billboard ad for the U.S. Marines. I pulled over to take a picture and as I was clicking away they made this pose. I felt happy to be in the right place at the time right to catch the coincidence or irony of it all.
Ironic Pictures
I absolutely love ironic pictures. Another favorite I shot was a couple years ago at the Oklahoma City Arts Festival. Here it is: two women smoking tobacco wrapped in brown paper. Crazy. Be sure to click to enlarge it.
I don’t take many ironic pictures, but when I do it makes me happy. Click here to see a picture of a homeless man texting. I thought that was somewhat ironic, but seemingly less so all the time.
There are some great ironic pictures on Pinterest – at least great in terms of the irony. The quality of the pictures is just average. And, then there is this post on Oddee from 2007 that features 11 crazy ironic pictures. They’re all great, but I like the coke machine going into the Pepsi truck the best.
