OKC Bombing, Berlin Wall Among Top Historic Events for Generation X

Jesus Wept | Gen-Xers list the Oklahoma City Bombing as the 12th Most Historic Event In Their Lifetimes

The Fall of the Berlin Wall, the Oklahoma City Bombing and the Challenger Disaster are among the top 12 historic events for Generation X, according to a new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in association with A+E Networks’ History.

Here are the events in order of their significance to Generation X:

  1. September 11, 2011 (9/11)
  2. Obama Election
  3. Fall of Berlin Wall/End of Cold War
  4. The Tech Revolution
  5. Iraq/Afghanistan Wars
  6. Gulf War
  7. Challenger Disaster
  8. Gay Marriage
  9. Hurricane Katrina
  10. Columbine Shooting
  11. Orlando Shooting
  12. Oklahoma City Bombing

According to Pew, shared experiences define what it means to be an American. The terrorist attacks on 9/11 were such a unifying event for modern Americans. Nothing else has come close to being as important or as memorable. Continue reading via the Pew Research Center.

    How about Reagan’s assassination attempt? I’ve had many conversations about *where were you then* for that day.

      Someone else on the Facebook page mentioned that. I was in junior high school. They sent us all home. All the kids were crying. It was confusing to me that the girl who played in Echoes of a Summer and the Bad News Bears — two favorite childhood films with Jodie Foster — would be part of it all. Still weird to this day.

      I’d echo this. I would think it would have had more impact on X’ers than the Orlando nightclub shooting, happening as it did earlier in our lifetimes.
