1978 Easter Egg Hunt, Tennessee (Black and White Photos)

The following images were taken during a 1978 Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by a United Methodist Church about 14 miles south of Chattanooga. Despite the happy occasion, a quiet stillness emanates from these black and white images. There are 14 faces in this first photo and only two are turned toward each other. Everyone is present but in their own world. Pretty much everyone is either looking down or staring straight ahead. The hunt appears to be over and the Easter baskets are as full as they are going to be on this Easter Day, 1978.

In the garden of our Savior, no flower grows unseen
His kindness rains like water on every humble seed
No simple act of mercy escapes His watchful eye
For there is One who loves me
His hand is over mine

In the kingdom of the heavens, no suff’ring is unknown
Each tear that falls is holy, each breaking heart a throne
There is a song of beauty on ev’ry weeping eye
For there is One who loves me
His heart, it breaks with mine

Oh, the deeds forgotten; oh, the works unseen
Every drink of water flowing graciously
Every tender mercy, You’re making glorious
This You have asked us
Do little things with great love
Little things with great love
