Meet the greatest concret dinosaur that ever was! This is Generation X’s Purple Dinosaur, Dino Flintstone, a Snarkasaurus. Yes, before the big purple Millennial dinosaur Barney there was Dino of Fred Flintstone fame.
Concrete Dinosaur Photo from 1976
I purchased this vintage snapshot of kids playing on a Dino-esque concrete dinosaur about a year ago. The date on the photo is 1976. I think it was taken somewhere in New Mexico. If you have any information about the structure or its exact location let us know in the comments
I was so happy when I found this rare snapshot of a dinosaur play structure. It appears to be located behind some housing addition but I’m not sure. It could be a roadside attraction. Either way, it pays homage to everyone’s favorite purple longneck Snorkasaurus, Dino, of Flintstone fame. It put a big smile on my face and I hope it makes you smile, too. Just think about it! Someone created this to bring joy to people, especially children.
Although Dino never had his own TV show like the next-gen purple dinosaur, Barney, he was beloved by Gen-Xers the world over.
I loved roadside attractions as a kid and I’m still a sucker for them. In 2012, we visited The Big Texan and Cadillac Ranch on our way to the Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumari, New Mexico. In 2017, Bridgette and I visited the Blue Whale in Catoosa, Oklahoma. While there, I took pictures of pictures that were in a very tattered scrapbook they had on display for the public.
