This 1990s prom dress is too 1990s for the 1990s. I purchased the original recently for my collection. I paid around $15, so if you swipe it and put in on your wildly famous 1980s Instagram account, please cite the photographer and this blog, https://www.jenx67.com/1990s-prom-dress. Thank you so much!
The photo appeared in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on April 21, 1994. Michael Sears was the photographer.

The most 1990s prom dress you’ve ever laid eyes on. Definitely didn’t want to be outdone by her older sister, 1980s prom. LOL.
The cutline read:
Tried and true: After searching in a few stores, Kristin W…(left) and Erin K…, both of Grafton, found these dresses at Cedar Creek Bridal for their Junior Prom at Grafton High School. When W. first saw the dress with the metallic gold overlay, “I knew it was the right one,” she said.
I have abbreviated the names of the girls in the picture as a courtesy.
All the 1990s Prom Dress Things
So, let’s see how many 1990s things we can identify in Kristin’s dress of choice. LOL.
✓ Poofy Victorian-esque sleeves
✓ Princess cut waistline
✓ Gold lame fabric
✓ Chantilly Lace
✓ Tulle
✓ Floral applique
✓ Soft hoop
✓ Southern belle hemline featuring layers and bows
✓ White pumps
✓ Brass Chandeliers (Not related to the dress, but also very 1990s. LOL.)
Erin’s faint pink dress looks similar to a Jessica McClintock dress I had in 1991. It’s made out of faille (pronounced file) with a white embroidered lace overlay. I loved this style so much! I would have been a total sucker for the metallic gold dress, too. I’m just not sure I would have had the confidence to pull it off.
I hope you love this 1990s prom dress photo! It made me smile and I wanted to buy it and pass it along. Please remember to cite my blog and the original source if you decide to “borrow” it and post it. Thank you! =)
