The first Independence Day I remember is the bicentennial in 1976. I was almost seven. It was so huge. Patriotism was everywhere. Its the first day I still remember clearly from dawn to dusk, filled with memories.
I was just thinking yesterday that I have no memories of that specific day. I was living in Colorado – the Centennial State – and all the fire hydrants were painted like Minutemen. In May 1976, our school did lots of special Bicentennial activities. But I have no memories of fireworks or parades on July 4, 1976. It was such a huge day. My father probably had to work and my mom was probably watching TV. LOL. I miss the patriotism of those days. Patriotism is now the P word. =(
