Bridgy and Her Hoop Baton

Hoop Baton Fringe

How To Trim A Hoop Baton, etc.

Check out these beautiful pictures of Bridgy twirling her hoop baton on the sideline at the McGuinness Homecoming game on September 21, 2023. The theme of the game was “gold out” so we trimmed her hoop baton with this amazing gold fringe. She found it on Amazon for about $12.99. First, she  wrapped the baton with sequin braid trim and then glued it to the hoop with E6000. She then glued the fringe right on top of that.

In hindsight, she could have sewed it to the braid and used less glue to attach the braid to the hoop. Hopefully, if she ever wants to change the braid to a different color she can remove it with no problem. Also, she already changed out the gold fringe to green; however, the second time she used chainette fringe.  (Scroll to see the last picture, which was taken on November 24, 2023 in Noble, Oklahoma. This was the state playoff game against Carl Albert.)

It didn’t work as well because it got caught on the sequin braid when she twirled the hoop. This didn’t happen with the gold fringe because the material is a slick metallic polyester. Also, it showed up better on the field and in pictures than the chainette.

Hoop Baton Nostalgia

The hoop baton is kind of awkward to twirl and it’s typically carried by twirlers and majorettes marching in parades. Bridgy thought it would be a great crowd pleaser for alumni and fans attending Homecoming game. The older crowd recalls twirlers from their high school days in the 1960s and 1970s, and the hoop baton stirs a bit of nostalgia in them. Bridgy practices at Santa Fe Family Life Center, a facility that the Knights of Columbus run. Many McGuinness alums exercise there, and the retired ladies always pause to share their stories about their twirling adventures with her.

Bridgette is blessed to twirl for the Fighting Irish. She’s on the sidelines at all the home and away games. In addition, this season she also performed five solo field routines this year, two at playoff games! McGuinness gives her lots of support and this fill us with gratitude. Sharing her sport with the community is a really wonderful thing.

Stay tuned for more hoop baton pictures! Exciting developments ahead!
