Happy Birthday Ken doll!
Ken is all the buzz as he celebrates his 50th birthday next month. Mattel introduced Ken in March 1961.
The problem is, however, as I see it, Ken was 18 when he hit store shelves. So, he’s really turning 68. He wasn’t born a baby, people. =)
I loved playing with Barbie dolls when I was a kid. I loved Barbie, Skipper, Francie and PJ. I even had a Walk Lively Steffie, which my grandmother bought me for Christmas in 1971. I still have her!
I also adored my Tuesday Taylor doll who wore a white bikini and tanned when you put her in the sun. You could also spin the top of her scalp around and make her blond or brunette. My favorites by far were Topper Dawn dolls. These were very rare. I only owned one, which was a trade from the kid who lived next door to us in Colorado Springs.
At any rate, poor Ken just wasn’t my type. Although I thought G.I. Joe‘s joints were a little creepy, he would have definitely won my heart over Ken. He needed a tan though. He was way pale.
