This is like summer to me

Frenchy: So, what did you do this summer?
Sandy: Oh, I spent most of it at the beach. I met a boy there.
— From Grease, 1978

I’ve been struggling to find time to write about Generation X lately, probably because I’ve been so busy focusing on my little Gen Zs: Juey, 13; Sully, 5 and Bridgy, still 3. We’ve been having a great time this summer with vacations and stay-cations. Here are a few pictures of our adventures.

Time with my family means the world to me! What does summer mean to you?

This is my wonderful husband Robert and amazing son Sullivan on Newport Beach. It was terrific watching Sully and Rob throw a stick into the ocean and chase it down as the tide brought it back. After an hour of this routine, Sully ran up to me and repeated this twice: “Mom! You throw the stick in and the tide brings it back!”

Little girl in a Disneyland Stroller

I sat next to the Dumbo ride for an hour and watched my baby girl sleep while Juliette, Rob and Sully rode Splash Mountain. I thought this was such a classic Disneyland picture. Disneyland was a lot of fun. And, I splurged on a gigantic caramel/chocolate apple that was shaped like Mickey Mouse’s head. It took all of us to finish it.

Bicycling on Venice Beach

This is Juliette on Venice Beach. I wanted her to experience this iconic beach in her youth. She really enjoyed taking in all the sites and sounds. We had the most amazing, gigantic cups of melon and strawberries with hot spices; rode bikes and enjoyed a few street performers.

I took 900 pictures during our trip, and will be posting more to my Flickr account soon.

Here is a picture I took of Bridgy the other day at an Oklahoma City spray ground. She’s wearing her Disneyland galoshes, which she’s had trouble parting with ever since we returned from our trip.

I love you, Super Bridgy. Stay self-assured and original. It is God’s gift to you.
