Working on Photography Skills in the Plaza District

Look at my beautiful daughter Juliette taking in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District. Isn’t she sweet? I love her so much.

Lately, I’ve been working on my photography skills, which really can get annoying if you are my child. I’ve been working on using the aperture setting on my camera, which blurs the backgrounds and brings the subject into sharper focus.

Here are two pictures I took yesterday while in the Plaza District. (This is such a fun little neighborhood/shopping district in OKC.)

I am so proud of my daughter. She is so artistic and full of life and Light! We bought this cap and braided scarf at Bad Granny in the district. The earrings were a Girlie Show find. I love all the color!

Here’s a shot I took in 2009, a year after this post was originally published.

I like to torment my kids with my camera too, but they don’t cooperate. I wonder if one them broke my camera.

Great photos! I am still learning about photography. Have you heard of pioneerwoman.com? She has a photography section on her blog that is so informative…I learned so much from that (plus she is hilarious).

    @ stefunkc@ Thank you!!!

@Le I feel the same way. We definitely guard against it – and we talk about it – the sexualization of girls at school and women in the workforce. It makes me rather sick actually that this is so rampant. Standing up against this is among my latest causes. Modesty – now there’s another trend.

@tobey – I think the Girlie Show has received some national acclaim. It’s quite unprecedented in OKC. Maybe you’ll make it down here one of these days!

@Debra – Photography is so much harder than it looks. I have so much to learn – and like in parenting – I am taking leads from you. I’m in awe of your daughters. Write about their styles! I’d love to hear about them. Also, I do think we reach an age where posting their photos isn’t as bad. The danger years to me are 7 to 13. Before and after that seems fine.

Jen, I DO understand your hesitation about posting your children’s photos. I sometimes feel the same way, but mine are quite a bit older than yours so I am a little more relaxed about it now.

What wonderful photos! You are doing great at blurring the background and bringing focal point into sharper focus! It takes some practice, but you are definitely getting it down! Your daughter is just precious. I love her personal style! The hat and scarf are just lovely on her. And the earrings are so much fun! Keep teaching her to express her own special individuality! My four girls are all very different in their “styles” and I love it.

    Have a happy week!

    Hugs,
    Debbie
